Review & Giveaway: Wisdomantics dvd game

We had the privilege to review a Bible game this past week!! It was incredibly fun and really had our minds guessing. It's not enough to know the gist of what the Bible says but to truly know it and memorize it! This game is based on the book of Proverbs and even though the kids and I have read Proverbs over and over every month we still got a few of the answers wrong...lol It does say ages 12 and up, but I would play in teams with the younger set of kids. It is timed so there is not a lot of time to chit chat about the right answer.

About the game:
For 2-4 players, ages 12+
Wisdomantics–New King James Version (NKJV) is an interactive DVD board game for players of various faiths who desire to gain the vast wisdom of King Solomon. Wisdomantics-NKJV utilizes the proverbs of Solomon and blends chance, knowledge and strategy to create a fun experience while you learn! The game’s intent is to bring individuals together to learn how to cope with numerous situations in a fun and relaxed environment. Inside the box you’ll find 2 interactive DVDs with 400 questions, score cards, blessing cards, and more!

We enjoyed it...and by the end of the game we were raising our hands, saying Halleluiah, just for fun. lol Proverbs is often an overlooked book in the Bible, and this is a fun way to incorporate this book into your lives.

Review & Giveaway: Susie's Hope

About the movie: Run time 105 minutes
Based on the true story that successfully passed Susie’s Law in North Carolina, which seeks stricter punishment for animal abusers, Susie’s Hope brings to life the inspirational relationship between pit bull attack survivor Donna Lawrence and Susie, a pit bull-mix puppy found beaten, burned and left for dead. Recognizing reflect and abuse were to blame for the tragic attack that nearly claimed her life 10 months earlier, Donna resumes the battered animal and accepts her as family. Together, they learn to heal, love and forgive as thyey lead a historic effort to seek justice and protection, not only for Susie, but all animals. Starring Emmanuelle Vaguer (40 Days and 40 Nights), Burgess Jenkins (Remember The Titans) and Andrea Powell (Ender’s Game, The Twighlight: Breaking Dawn Saga: Part 2), Susie’s Hope is an incredible story of love, loss and redemption.

About Susie:
Susie was found nearly dead in Greenfield Park in Greensboro, North Carolina on August 20, 2009. Just a puppy, Susie had licked the face of her owner’s newborn baby. Her owner became violent—she was beaten so severely her jaw was broken. That wasn’t enough, though. She was then set on fire and left for dead. Incredibly and against all odds Susie survived. Donna Lawrence adopted her two months later. Susie is now a trained therapy dog and event won the American Humane Association’s American Hero Dog this year!

Check out Susie’s Hero Dog Award Video: Here

I watched this with my 5 and 8 yr old children. It was a little boring for the youngest as he just didn't follow what was going on.
This movie is not elevating animals, but encouraging people to treat them well since we were told by God to have dominion over the earth and all that is on the earth. That does not include abusing God's creatures. This movie is all about that and how a woman overcame her fear from being attacked by an abused animal and helped change the laws in her state. A great movie to watch to show our children why we need to treat animals with respect and what happens when we don't. A great discussion starter for young teens with their parents.

My children loved this movie. It's format was like The Muppet Show or Sesame Street and since they were just introduced to The Muppet Show this year, they thought it was great!!! Some history thrown in as well as Scripture, definitely a great way to entertain your children while allowing them to be taught about the history of Christianity. We all giggled at the out takes as Phil repeats some tongue twisters...lol

After watching this episode, I would probably buy the rest...they were that good.

Website: Awaken Love

I have just read a few days worth with my husband so far and we like what we've read so far! Reading a few verses of Song of Solomon and then applying it to our lives. For example, the first day we read Song of Solomon 1:1-3 and at the end we needed to think about a time that our spouses very name made an impact in us...if you couldn't think of any one moment, then we were to write an acronym using their name. I like practical things like this that get me thinking. We will enjoy this book for the next 6 weeks!
I thoroughly encourage you to enter the giveaway so you can read it too! Anything that brings couples together and keeps the electronics turned off is a plus in my book! It's too easy to just turn on the boobtube and waste the evening in the same room but not building relationship.

Review and Giveaway: Small Talk

About the book:
Every day, one of Amy Julie Becker’s children says something that prompts her to think about life in a new way. “Mom, does Santa love me?” William asks, after his mother explains the meaning of Christmas…In a chat with her dad about the children who died in the Sandy Hook shootings, Penny asks, “Did they go to heaven?” …”You was a jerk, Mommy?” asks Marilee one morning in the car.
These conversations deepen Amy Julia’s relationships with her children, but they also refine her understanding of what she believes and what God is doing in her own life.
In Small Talk, Amy Julia draws from the wisdom and curiosity of those young voices to reflect on beauty and kindness, tragedy and disability, prayer and miracles. As she moves through the basic questions her kids posed when they were very young to the more intellectual questions of later childhood, she invites us to learn from our own day-to-day conversations with the children in our lives.
This eloquent parenting memoir is about the big questions little hearts ask, the thoughts their words provoke, and the laughter and soul-searching their honesty brings—to adult and child alike.

About the author:
Amy Julia Becker writes about faith, family, and disability for Parents.com, the New York Times Motherlode blog, TheAtlantic.com, The Huffington Post parents page, Christianity Today, The Christian century, and numerous other publications. Her first book, A Good and Perfect Gift: Faith, Expectations, and a Little Girl Named Penny, was named one of the Top Ten Religion Books of 2011 by Publishers Weekly. Amy Julia lives in western Connecticut with her husband and three children.

What a pleasure to read this book! Every chapter, Amy shares the revelations the Father has given her in her daily life as a mom. Revelations that we too can receive if we slow down and let the Father speak through our children. This book was an easy read, not heavy and theological, but anecdotal and practical. Through reading it, I was reminded over and over how we need to come to the Father as children, trusting and naive. Not trying to complicate everything (as we adults often do), but taking His Word for what it says and actually believing it!!! This book was so encouraging! Feeling overwhelmed about motherhood? Read a chapter of this book and you will be grateful once again for the Blessings the Father has bestowed upon you! This book would make a great baby shower gift as well as a gift to a well seasoned mama! We can all use encouragement!

Review and Giveaway: Growing Up Social

About the book:

-Softcover
-209 pages
-Parent Resources
-Discussion Guides for every chapter (perfect for a bible study!)

Is technology bringing your family closer together or driving you farther apart?

Children today are no longer playing hide-and-seek outside or curling up with a good book—instead they’ve been introduced to a world of constant digital entertainment through television, video games, and mobile devices. And while technology has the potential to add value to our lives and families, it can also erode a sense of togetherness and hinder a child’s emotional and social development.

In Growing Up Social, Gary Chapman and Arlene Pellicane will empower you with the necessary tools to make positive changes…starting today. Through stories, wit, and wisdom, you’ll discover how to take back your home from an over dependence on screens. Plus, you’ll learn to teach the five A+ skills that every healthy child needs to master: affection, appreciation, anger management, apology, and attention.

•Equip your child to be relationally rich in a digital world
•Replace mindless screen time with meaningful family time
•Establish simple boundaries that make a huge difference
•Discover what’s working for families that have become screen savvy
•Learn healthy ways to occupy your child while you get things done

Now is the time to equip your child to live with screen time, not for screen time. No phone, tablet, or gaming device can teach your child how to have healthy relationships—only you can.

I have had the wonderful privilege of reading this book and sharing it with all of you! WOW...I am not a fan of parenting books, but this one is SO incredible! Doesn't matter if you just have toddlers or toddlers AND teens, this book is for you!

What's so great about THIS book you ask? Well, I know a lot of people grew up with a great family life like I did, however there were a lot of skills that I never really learned and am now still struggling with as an adult! This book helped me to recognize and learn the skills needed to overcome!

They talk about the 6 A plus skills, skills that are needed to succeed relationally! They are: Affection, Appreciation, Anger Management, Apology, and Attention.
Not only do they explain what the healthy skill looks like, but they also offer tips on how to teach these skills to your children (and how to incorporate these skills into your own life!!)

Because we live in a world that is hugely based on "screen time", we need to set limits. This book explains why limits are needed and what screen time does to you. How it affects your social skills, your attitude, your brain...everything!

I loved this book. I highly recommend that even if you don't win this book in the giveaway posted below, please find it in your local bookstore!

Review and Giveaway: Their Name is Today

About the book:
Softcover / 192 pages

“If you want to glean insights into how to raise and influence children to be more compassionate and considerate, more courageous and confident, more independent, secure, and unselfish; if you want your children to be more loving and joy-filled, then get reading!” —excerpt from Mark K. Shriver’s Foreword (President of Save the Children Action Network)

Despite a perfect storm of hostile forces that threaten to deny children a healthy, happy childhood, courageous parents and teachers can turn the tide. Yes, we can reclaim childhood, says Johann Christoph Arnold, whose books have helped more than a million readers through the challenges of education and family life. In Their Name Is Today, he highlights drastic changes in the way our society treats children. But he also brings together the voices of dedicated parents and educators who are finding creative ways to give children the time and space they need to grow. Cutting through the noise of conflicting opinions, Arnold takes us to the heart of education and parenting by defending every child’s right to the joy and wonder of childhood.

About the author: Johann Christoph Arnold
A noted speaker and writer on marriage, parenting, and end-of-life issues, Arnold is a senior pastor of the Bruderhof, a movement of Christian communities. With his wife, Verena, he has counseled thousands of individuals and families over the last forty years, as well as serving as an advisor at several innovative private schools. Arnold’s message has been shaped by encounters with great peacemakers such as Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Teresa, Dorothy Day, Cėsar Chavez, and John Paul II. Born in Great Britain in 1940 to German refugees, Arnold spent his boyhood years in South America, where his parents found asylum during the war; he immigrated to the US in 1955. He and his wife have eight children, forty-four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. They live in upstate New York.

Acclaim for the author:

“A much-needed message not only for South Africa, but for the whole world.” -Nelson Mandela, on Why Forgive (one of Arnold’s books)

“In this book we find a message needed today in every part of the world.” -Mother Teresa, from her forword to Sex, God, & Marriage (one of Arnold’s books)

“Written in a way that is easy to grasp…indeed, very beautifully.” - Pope Benedict XVI, on A Little Child Shall Lead Them (one of Arnold’s books)

I so appreciated the author's advice throughout the book. Put away the screens, spend TIME with your children, get rid of the screens, get out in nature with your children, put the screens away, read a book with your children...I'm sure you catch my drift. Children don't need screens...they really don't. And to top it all off, we could do without them as well. Can you imagine how much less worry and stress we would have, if we weren't tapped into world news 24/7 and instead spent time with our children and saw things brand new from their eyes?! I was challenged by this book to put the smartphone away and play with my children. Not just homeschool them, but just be more available for casual chats instead of hushing them, because I'm talking to someone through text on my phone...or through facebook. I like my friends, but my family DOES need to come first. I would love to see all families read this book, even if you think you have a good handle on limiting screentime in your home (like I did), I know this book will challenge you to go to deeper relationship levels with your children and with Yahweh.

Yup, I would love for you to win this book! So leave a comment below and that is your entry to win! I will only be checking comments and entering you that way for the draw, so come back daily to enter!

Review and Giveaway: Overrated

So I agreed to do a review on this book, when I still lived in a house on an acreage. I thought, YES! This book sounds exactly like what I need to read right now. Here's the write up on it.

About the book:
We all want to change the world, but as pastor Eugene Cho found out, it takes more than just desire. It takes action. In this personal confession he encourages readers to discover a practical discipleship that begins with the recognition that changing the world starts with changing ourselves.

Many people today talk about justice, but are they living justly? They want to change the world, but are they being changed themselves? Eugene Cho shares his story, a messy, painful story of being more in love with the ideas behind the actions than counting the cost and being a world-changer in action. Because everyone loves justice and compassion, but few have taken it upon themselves to truly live it out in their own lives. Cho is still on that journey to discover what it means, and invites readers to join him.

About the author:
Eugene is the founder and visionary of One Day’s Wages, a grassroots movement of people, stories, and actions to alleviate extreme global poverty. He is the founder and senior pastor of Quest Church, an urban, multicultural, and multigenerational church in Seattle, Washington. Eugene and his wife, Minhee, have three children.

I have to say, I'm really enjoying this book. It is challenging, even though we are currently living quite simply already. September 1st we moved out of our rental home on a beautiful acreage and found ourselves homeless due to the crazy housing market. So like Eugene Cho and his family, who opted to go couch surfing for 3 months, we have been camping and staying at my inlaws house for the past 5 weeks. It isn't easy.

One of my favorite chapters thus far has been, "Shut up, Listen, and Pray". In this chapter, Eugene shares the following statistics:
"-Parents spend an average of about 3.5 minutes a week in meaningful conversation with their children.
-An average child spends 1'680 minutes (that's 28 hours per week) watching television.
-The percentage of households that have at least one television is 99 percent, and in fact, the average TV household owns 2 1/4 TV sets.
-The percentage of US homes that own three or more TV sets is 66 percent. Wow, that's a lot of TVs.
-The percentage of Americans who regularly watch television while eating dinner is 66 percent. " pg88-89

These statistics made me glad I homeschool as well as not own a tv. Yes we still watch netflix on occasion. But where we are camping there is no internet or a cell signal for that matter. We are truly living simply. Connecting with our children and disconnecting from the material things. Downsizing from a 4 bedroom house to a 12'X14' tent and now in a 30ft motorhome, I'm realizing how much excess we still have. Like really, I don't need more than 2 or 3 skirts or shirts. It is purely for vanity's sake that I have more. This book also continues to challenge us in our attitudes. Are we going to simply whine like the Israelites did or are we going to face things head on and seek Yahweh for provisions and shelter?! This is the perfect book for me to read during this time in my life. It has helped me to realize that it is easy to talk about living simply and giving to those in need...it's quite another to actually live simply (with a good attitude) and give to the needy. Now I never grumble about giving to those in need...but it's hard to find them when you are out camping in the wilderness.

I highly recommend this book to all who love the Lord and desire to walk the way Jesus walked. It WILL challenge you, though. You won't set the book down unchanged.

Review & Giveaway: Holy Ghost dvd

Can the Holy Spirit Direct a Movie?

In this fast-paced documentary from the director of the popular films Finger of God, Furious Love, and Father of Lights, Darren Wilson sets out to make a movie that is completely led by the Holy Spirit. No plan, no script, no safety net — just go wherever he feels the Spirit leading him to try and discover the adventure God has for him. Whether it’s the riches of Monte Carlo, a heavy metal concert, or the oldest city in world, the result is a film that not only challenges and excites, but also reveals a God who is far more alive and active than you ever imagined.

The movie features big names such as Lenny Kravitz, Brain “Head” Welch, Bill Johnson, Michael W. Smith, Todd White, Meredith Andrews, DeVon Franklin, William P. Young, Phil Vischer, and many more!

Check out the official website here: http://holyghost.wpfilm.com
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/holyghostmovie

I watched this movie with a bit of skepticism...thinking oh sure, it's gonna be full of "holy rollers" and emotionalism. I was pleasantly surprised. This movie was done well. I enjoyed it. Even though this is not my style of evangelism, I love seeing the Set-Apart Spirit draw people...although, I would have liked to see some sort of discipleship set up for the new Believers. It encouraged me to be bold about what I believe, regardless of my surroundings! Abba's hand of protection is over us when we walk in His ways and do what He tells us to do. We need to let go of that fear of what others will do to us.

Review & Giveaway: Wherever the River Runs

Wherever the River Runs by Kelly Minter "how a forgotten people renewed my hope in the gospel"

About the book:

In Wherever the River Runs, Kelly Minter invites us on a journey down a river teeming with piranhas and caimans, as well as machete-wielding mothers, heroic jungle pastors, faith-filled children, and miracles too seldom experienced in our part of the world. Kelly's honest and engaging narrative pulls back the curtain on one of the most captivating places on earth as well as on parts of the gospel we may be able to recite but have never fully believed.

On this beautiful adventure through the jungles of Brazil and the tangles of the soul, Kelly rediscovers Jesus among a forgotten people living well beyond the corners of her previously defined faith--a people who draw her back to their country, their pain, and their hope in Him, again and again.

"Kelly Minter writes the way a portrait artist paints." -- Beth Moore, Living Proof Ministries

"The best thing I can say about Wherever the River Runs is that I closed the last page, bowed my head, and said, 'God, send me too.' Thank you, Kelly, for your courage, leadership, and faithfulness." -- Jen Hatmaker (speaker, blogger, and author of 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess)

I haven't finished reading this book yet, but am loving it! Kelly weaves humor into this very convicting book with the skill of a pro! I read aloud to my husband last night and we were both sobered and convicted of our ability to take things for granted so effortlessly. We are challenged to be much more intentional in our living. Not being afraid of relationships with those in need. Ultimately, raising our children to put the needs of others before our own. To make this way of living our lifestyle. I would love for every Believer in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to read this book and allow it to change you.

Review & Giveaway: Veggie Tales Celery Night Fever

VeggieTales: Celery Night Fever

About The Movie:
In Celery Night Fever, the retro funkadelic sights and sounds of polyester leisure suits and disco balls take center stage – along with a timeless message of friendship and forgiveness. Actor Terry Crews provides the voice of Bruce Onion, a nefarious real-estate developer who plans to turn the serene, green Celery Park into a parking lot. His unsavory scheme spurs Laura Carrot and Junior Asparagus to enact a bold plan: reuniting the long-lost ’70s band The Groovy Brothers to play at a fund-raising concert. The problem is, The Groovy Brothers haven’t spoken to each other in decades, and the members have little interest in getting back together. Their long-simmering feud spills over to affect Laura and Junior. It’s not just Celery Park that’s in jeopardy – if best friends can’t learn to forgive each other and accept each other’s faults, the veggies might lose their cherished community gathering spot. Celery Night Fever features six original songs, including a rousing number from Bruce Onion, showcasing the musical side of Terry Crews. Celery Night Fever debuts Aug. 5 exclusively on DVD.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I personally detest veggie tales. But when it comes to watching movies, I've learned that I need to lay aside my own pet peeves and let the kids watch something THEY enjoy. And they totally enjoyed this video! I love the lessons learned and that it promotes working through problems with one another instead of avoiding them. We all could learn that!

Since I have never watch Saturday Night Fever, I think a lot of the humor was lost on me...lol I bet it is hilarious to many out there though who are familiar with that show.

Review and Giveaway: Persecuted the book based on a Daniel Lusko film

PERSECUTED

Buzz about the film:

"Bringing the battle of FREE SPEECH to light." FoxNews

"House of Cards for the religious sect." - POLITICO

"A big thumbs-up." - American Family Association

About The Book:
The Question Is Not IF Attempts Will Be Made to Limit Religious Freedoms, But When

The most popular evangelist of his day, John Luther, simply wants to share the Gospel and enjoy a quiet life with his family. He never asked to be at the center of a political controversy, but an ill wind has been blowing through the halls of Congress, and supporters of a new religious-equality bill see Luther's endorsement as critical. But when Luther refuses to lend his support, he unknowingly sets in motion an explosive plan bent on destroying his reputation and undermining everything for which he stands. His once-normal life is turned upside down as he becomes a fugitive left with only one dangerous option--putting everything he holds most dear at risk while he fights to expose the truth. It is a mission that brings him face-to-face with the coming storm of persecution that could threaten the very fabric of our nation's freedoms.

I have to say, I was a little leery doing this review...I'm not so much into the suspense genre, however, I caught myself reading quite late into the night...lol It reminded me a bit of that old Harrison Ford movie The Fugitive...but with God involved. I enjoyed this book, it was a good reminder that even in the midst of persecution and chaos, God IS there. Nothing happens without His permission and what the enemy meant for evil, God will turn it into something good. A thumbs up book for me. Not sure I will watch the movie though...scroll down to enter your chance to win this book!!!

Shavuot 2014

We had a wonderful time celebrating the last Spring Feast, Shavuot. We enjoyed a quiet Shabbat at home resting and swinging in the hammock, reading Scripture and enjoying each other's company. Then at sundown we started our Shavuot tradition of staying up as late as we can, reading Scripture and talking about why we were staying up late and watching Ten Commandment movies...Silas went to bed at midnight, Malachi crashed on the couch around 12:45 and then we finally sent Shyla to bed (she went very willingly)at 1am. Jamie and I stayed up until 4:15am...then on the 1st day of the week we went over to our friends house, the Patterson's, to renew our vows before YHVH and do a wave offering. No, it wasn't done perfectly according to Scripture, since it's a pilgrimage Feast, but until there is an altar, we simply practice these things to the best of our ability. We had two small loaves (next year I want to attempt to make them with the right amounts of flour etc) and we waved them before YHVH, Jamie stood on one side of the loaves and Mr. Patterson on the other, we were all in a circle. So we had fun with the wave offering and Mr. Patterson started a wave (you know the kind you see in baseball stadiums) and it went around the circle and back again...lol Here are the words we said in our covenant renewal under the chuppah made with our talit held up with tent poles, Patterson's under one chuppah and Kowal's under another but we said the covenant renewal together:
Abba,
We stand before You today, just like the mixed multitude did at the base of Mt. Sinai. Before they even knew what was required of them, they agreed to obey. We stand here today in partial understanding of the covenant we are renewing with You, YHVH. With the help of the Ruach haKodesh we pledge our love and obedience to You and You alone. May Your Spirit make us very aware when we put other things in the seat of the throne that is meant for You alone.
'You are to love YHVH your God with all your strength. This is the greatest and most important mitzvah. And a second is similar to it, you are to love your neighbor as yourself. All of the Torah and the Prophets are dependent on these two mitzvot.' Matt 22:37-40
Sh'ma Yisrael, Adonai eloheinu, Adonai echad. Baruch shem kavod, malchuto l'olam va'ed. Hear oh Israel, YHVH is our God, YHVH is one. Blessed be the name of His glorious kingdom forever and ever. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind, and with all your strength. Let these matters that I command you this day, be upon your hearts. Teach them diligently to your children, speak of them when you sit in your homes, when you walk along the way, when you lie down and when you arise. Bind them as a sign upon your hand and as frontlets between your eyes. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

I look forward to the day when we can make the pilgrimage to Israel for the Feast days!

Review: Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Signed, Sealed, Delivered
The new original series "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" is a wonderful combination of romance, comedy and drama that follows the lives of four postal detectives who transform themselves into a team of detectives to track down intended recipients of undeliverable mail. Their missions take them out of the office where redirected letters and packages can save lives, solve crimes, reunite old loves and change futures by arriving late but somehow always on time. The team includes charming Oliver O’Toole (Eric Mabius), the group's leader is a man of faith who prayerfully approaches his work with the goal of making a difference in people's lives; new team member, Shane McInerney (Kristin Booth), a technophile who brings 21st century sensibility to the group; free-spirited, “girl next door” Rita Haywith (Crystal Lowe) who has a photographic memory; and lovable Norman Dorman (Geoff Gustafson), a master in conventional research methods.
The show aires SUNDAYS, 8/7c on Hallmark

This incredible series even incorporates scripture in its themes and in the conversations between characters. In FACT, The American Bible Society has built a bible study to go with the series,
Sign up for that here: http://www.americanbible.org/features/signed-sealed-delivered
Isn't that great? A seven-day Bible reading experience to dig deeper into the meaningful biblical themes revealed in each episode of Signed, Sealed, Delivered.

I have to say, that I really enjoyed watching this show. I'll be honest, I was waiting for something to happen that I would object to (I have a very high standard in our entertainment) yet, there was little I objected to. I think it is a very clean and likeable tv show. The characters were interesting and I look forward to watching them develop! I would say that it is not necessarily a family show, but for teens and adults. Our family does not watch cable tv, nor do we intend to start. But I have to admit, if all tv shows were as wholesome as this one is, then I would likely seriously consider it. You see very easily who the "good" guys are and who the "bad" guys are. You see one of the characters "try out" being someone she is not, but opts for being the "real her" for a competition. She wasn't willing to put on a facade in order to "win". (that is an incredibly important thing to me...I hate fakes!)I love it when the good is able to overcome the bad, because in real life, that isn't always how it goes. We often give in to temptation, and this show just really encourages us to take the high road, don't give in and most of all be yourself.

Oh and I signed up for the Bible Study as well and can't wait to get my first lesson on Monday.
I hope you all go take a look at this new tv series and check it out!! I give it a thumbs up!!

Review & Giveaway~Alone, Yet Not Alone

I am so pleased to be able to review this book! We loved it. At first I wasn't so sure it would make a good bedtime read-aloud, due to the content, but everyone wanted "just one more chapter" every night. My children are 12, 8 and 5. Yes, even the 5 yr old didn't want to miss any part of the story! My husband would be disappointed if he missed a night of reading with us! We were not disappointed at all with this book, and it opened up a lot of discussions about how we would live out our faith in similar circumstances. We look forward to the movie coming out in June.

This historic book is recommended for children ages 8 and up and is a read they are guaranteed to love. It combines great adventure with even greater values - kids won't even realize they are learning about history!

About Alone Yet Not Alone:

Settled in the Blue Mountains of Pennsylvania, deep within America's new frontier, the Leininger family celebrates the blessings of a beautiful homestead and bountiful harvest. That is, until tragedy strikes with the beginning of the French and Indian War and the devastating raid known as the Penn's Creek Massacre.

The lives of this simple, God-fearing family are forever altered when Barbara and Regina, two young sisters, are carried away by a band of Allegheny warriors. Driven by their faith in God and the powerful bonds of family, Barbara and Regina hole firmly to the belief that they are never alone, even in their darkest hour, and that they will be reunited again.

Rich in historical details, Alone Yet Not Alone is an inspirational, true story of a family caught in the cross fire of the French and Indian War.

The feature film will be released in theaters June 13th 2014!!!!

About The Author:
Tracy Leininger Craven loves history and retelling real-life stories in her historical fiction books. She also loves spending her free time in the great outdoors with her husband David and their three children.

Dreams...

Okay, so here I am "wallowing in the pit of despair" (the kids are watching The Princess Bride and the Pit of Despair sounds like how I feel), and I am getting constant reminders that YHVH is with me and wants me to beat this spiritual depression sooner than later...lol I am amazed at His faithfulness, despite my falling into the enemies trap of depression almost every year. Why on earth would I feel this way, when I have the hope of YHVH in my life?! When I am constantly being miraculously provided for?! When we are entering this new season of hope called spring?! Why indeed?! oh let me tell you...but first let me share Yah's faithfulness. This week alone, a friend dropped by and gave me a cheerful yellow potted mum plant, my MIL gave me a $50 gift card for superstore (I needed a few groceries, some meds and gas for the car and we were out of money, but she didn't know that!!) in the mail was something from Red Cross soliciting for donations, but in with it were note cards to send to others to make their day brighter. I don't believe in coincidences!! He speaks to me all the time through the people around me! I really truly don't have a good reason to stay in this pit of despair, and even throughout the afternoon of writing this, a friend called to say "hi" and we chatted for an hour and a half!! Now I still need to deal with the enemy but when I look at Yah's faithfulness to me, it sure changes my attitude! I mistakenly allowed the enemy to speak words of discontentment into my life. The enemy spoke lies that I can't trust my Creator, the enemy planted disbelief in my mind, that our dreams are not from YHVH. You see, 10 yrs ago, a dream was planted into our lives. It was the dream of an acreage...the original dream was a spiritual retreat center (kind of a whole body retreat center) that had an indoor tropical pool area with a waterfall and everything, as well as a golf course and small motel/cabins area. Also having our own animals and garden for food (eating whole foods is important to us whether certified organic or not) and being very self-sufficient, while ministering spiritually to others and doing all this with others who share our dream. Yeah...pretty lofty dream eh? Our dream has morphed into something a little more attainable but apparently still out of reach. Our current dream is to simply live on a self-sustaining acreage...and that's it. Oh sure we would prefer a community living kind of atmosphere, but somehow along the way my trust in Yah has faltered and that dream seems to have fallen by the wayside...even though I would definitely welcome it. Now please understand what I mean by self-sufficiency...it is not us doing everything in our own strength and forgetting our Creator!!! It is us relying on our Creator to show us how to live in community, how to grow our own food that has not been messed with by man made junk and how to live set-apart from the gov't regulated grid. We have no intentions of hiding from the world, but desire to be a light to the world and create a refreshing atmosphere for others who desire to visit a very set-apart place from the mainstream city life...writing all this rekindles this dream...and I envision a joyful me, making soap with the kids or bread in a woodstove...oh yes, I romanticize my dreams often. Even when it seems the dream is dead. okay, so now you know the dream and a bit of why I'm in the "pit of despair"...now how do I get out?! It will be a fight. The enemy loves where I am right now. I do not, but the thing with depression is that it makes you too complacent/lazy to do anything about it. I'm pulling myself out, first by writing about it...and then by doing what I say. It may or may not be instant, I'm okay with a long battle, but I have to actually start fighting back. First step: make popcorn for the kids...it is after all, 2pm and no lunch has been made yet... Second step: read teaching unit 5 from A More Excellent Way and go through the 8 R's. Recognize what is affecting you (whether it's a spirit of fear or some other sin). Take responsibility for what you recognize. Repent to God for participating with what you recognize. You must make what you recognize your enemy and Renounce it. Remove it-get rid of it once and for all. When it tries to come back, Resist it. Rejoice-give God thanks for setting you free. Restore-help someone else get free. So that is what I am going to be doing on these last few days leading up to Passover. I'll be doing a lot of spiritual house cleaning, of recognizing of my sins, repenting, removing and rejoicing, as well as physical house cleaning...LOL

How to video on making pretty Challah.

Can't wait to play with my Sabbath bread this week!!

07/03/2014

Shabbat in our Home

Yes, it is preparation day and I'm sitting down at the computer enjoying the smells emanating from the kitchen, while enjoying a "cuppa joe"!! I don't have a camera, but let me do my best to describe my kitchen today...
In the toaster oven, you will find a chicken cooking on the rotisserie. In the oven, is the honey oatmeal challah bread. On the counter is a fresh brew of kombucha tea as well as water kefir and a couple trays of sprouts. Oh I feel like such a little healthy homemaker today...lol
I will start making the marinated veggies in a little bit and get the yams and potatoes cooking.
The Tassimo is freshly descaled and clean, my laundry is caught up, just a few loads to put away. Still need to clean the bathrooms and do a quick tidy up of the living room and then we'll be ready to enjoy the Sabbath. That special day that Yah set-apart for us.
He shows us in Creation that the 7th day is to be for rest. Ex 20:“Remember the day, Shabbat, to set it apart for God. You have six days to labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Shabbat for Adonai your God. On it, you are not to do any kind of work — not you, your son or your daughter, not your male or female slave, not your livestock, and not the foreigner staying with you inside the gates to your property. 11 For in six days, Adonai made heaven and earth, the sea and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. This is why Adonai blessed the day, Shabbat, and separated it for himself."

Who am I to argue with Him!! lol This is my favorite of the 10 Commandments!!  I will set my table this evening with my fine china and get out the wine goblets for our grape juice, we will dress up as we prepare to enjoy this day called Shabbat. It is a day where Yah meets with us, and He is the most special guest we can possibly have in our home.  Now that is not to say that He is not present the rest of the week, but we honor Him especially on His Shabbat. He sanctified us with His commandments and commands His children to remember Shabbat!! So remember it we shall!!!
Shabbat starts at sundown Friday evening and lasts until Saturday at sundown or when you can see some stars.  Well, I better finish up my preparations since it will soon be sundown!!
Shabbat Shalom

What is Holiness?!?

I grew up in a conservative Christian family and I'm sure I was taught the correct definition of holiness, but for some reason it never really clicked. It was a word that was jumbled in with a bunch of other religious words, like sanctification and r etc

I want my children to understand what holiness is and what it is not! I grew up thinking it was an unattainable state that we should strive for...I thought holiness was a synonym for being perfect! I thought I had to "act" perfect, which is far from the Truth of the definition of this word!!

The Hebrew word for  "holy" in the following references is found in the Strong's concordance as # 6918.
קדךש in English it sounds like "kadosh" and means holy, sacred, consecrated, set apart as dedicated to God; by extension: pure, innocent, free from impurity.

Lev 11
43 "Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby.
44 For I am the Lord your God. Ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy, for I am holy; neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
45 For I am the Lord who bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. Ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy." 21st century KJV

" You are not to make yourselves detestable with any of these swarming, crawling creatures; do not make yourselves unclean with them, do not defile yourselves with them. 44 For I am Adonai your God; therefore, consecrate yourselves and be holy, for I am holy; and do not defile yourselves with any kind of swarming creature that moves along the ground. (Maftir) 45 For I am Adonai, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God. Therefore you are to be holy, because I am holy." CJB

Lev 19
And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,
“Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them: ‘Ye shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy." 21st century KJV

Adonai said to Moshe, “Speak to the entire community of Isra’el; tell them, ‘You people are to be holy because I, Adonai your God, am holy." CJB

Lev 20
“‘Sanctify yourselves therefore and be ye holy, for I am the Lord your God.
“‘And ye shall keep My statutes and do them: I am the Lord who sanctify you." 21st century KJV

7 "Therefore consecrate yourselves — you people must be holy, because I am Adonai your God.  Observe my regulations, and obey them; I am Adonai, who sets you apart to be holy." CJB
 Num 15
39 "And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it and remember all the commandments of the Lord and do them, and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring,
40 that ye may remember and do all My commandments, and be holy unto your God.
41 I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I am the Lord your God.” 21 century KJV

39 It is to be a tzitzit for you to look at and thereby remember all of Adonai’s mitzvot and obey them, so that you won’t go around wherever your own heart and eyes lead you to prostitute yourselves; 40 but it will help you remember and obey all my mitzvot and be holy for your God. 41 I am Adonai your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt in order to be your God. I am Adonai your God.” CJB

Deut 7
“For thou art a holy people unto the Lord thy God; the Lord thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto Himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.
The Lord did not set His love upon you nor choose you because ye were more in number than any people, for ye were the fewest of all people;" 21 century KJV

6 "For you are a people set apart as holy for Adonai your God. Adonai your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his own unique treasure. Adonai didn’t set his heart on you or choose you because you numbered more than any other people — on the contrary, you were the fewest of all peoples." CJB

Deut 14
“Ye are the children of the Lord your God: ye shall not cut yourselves nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.
For thou art a holy people unto the Lord thy God, and the Lord hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto Himself above all the nations that are upon the earth." 21 century KJV

“You are the people of Adonai your God. You are not to gash yourselves or shave the hair above your foreheads in mourning for the dead, because you are a people set apart as holy for Adonai your God. Adonai your God has chosen you to be his own unique treasure out of all the peoples on the face of the earth." CJB

How can we be a 'set apart' people for YHVH? (I like to specify who my God is and choose to use the unpronounceable name He gave for us to use)

Have you ever noticed, that He gives us an instruction guide on how to be 'set apart'???
It's kinda interesting,  Deut 7:7 says  "Adonai didn’t set his heart on you or choose you because you numbered more than any other people — on the contrary, you were the fewest of all peoples."  I wonder if the 'instruction guide', is the reason He chose a small people group instead of a large people group?  I mean think about it.  We humans are stubborn and rebellious....we want to think we know it all, and don't want anyone to tell us what to do. It makes sense that YHVH picks the smallest group of people in order to restore the lost relationship He had with His creation.  It's easier to change, in a small group, less chance of mutiny...lol  And yet, there still arose many situations within the camp of YHVH's people during the 40 yrs in the wilderness.

I've noticed that very few people who claim to serve YHVH, obey or even consider the 'instruction guide' to be relevant to them. Do you know what that 'instruction guide' is?
It is the very foundation of faith in YHVH.  It shows us YHVH's character and why we should want to be restored to Him. It explains to us, what He thinks about things and how we are to act. It shows us pictures of the future and what we can expect in the End Times.

Why don't more of us study His guide and learn to live 'set-apart' the way He wants His people to? Are we too distracted? Are we too busy worrying?

YHVH tells us how to be holy. And as we learn to live 'set-apart' for Him, we will become that pure and spotless Bride that He will soon return for.  It is as simple as obeying Him. To join with the original "church" at Sinai and say, "We will obey every word Adonai has spoken.” Ex 24:3.

The Deuteronomy 13 Test (False prophet test)

I was very saddened today as I heard these words come from the mouth of a Christian woman, as she gave a positive review for a Christian book on doctrine and not necessarily Scripture, "This book was a great explanation for Christians who are confused about Scripture and explains very well how Jesus fulfilled the prophesies of the Old Testament and how we don't have to keep doing the sacrifices or laws anymore."

My mouth dropped, my eyebrows rose...many quick answers popped into my head. I opted to just keep my mouth shut, so as to not speak in anger or hurt. But to be honest, it is really bugging me. Because to me, she said so much more. This is what "I" heard...

"Jesus is a rebellious son and He told us that He'd keep all the rules perfectly so we don't even have to try"

"I don't like a lot of those Old Testament rules, so I'll ignore them, since Jesus was punished for my sins already"

"Hmmm, I'll keep the 'do not murder' and the 'do not commit adultery' commandments, but I sure don't like the 4th commandment...I'll worship Him on the day of MY choosing, not His"

"I want to eat whatever I like, so I'm going to ignore the food laws" (even though science has fully proven that the Biblical food laws make sense and are definitely a healthier choice)

And many more things popped into my head, for example, it's no wonder that the Jews reject Christianity's version of the Messiah.  I'm not Jewish, but "I" reject Christianity's version of the Messiah as well. Yes, yes I do. Wanna know why??? Here's a great explanation...

I do not agree with everything this Ministry teaches, but this video I do agree with. It is also why my family and I are learning to worship The Creator in the way HE wants to be worshiped instead of how and when "I" want to worship Him. He has a memory you know, that might sounds silly, but but think of it this way, when I take the holidays that the church has "christianized", He sees the pagan elements and what they originally stood for and it hurts Him that we would worship Him the same way the pagans of old worshiped their gods.  If we love Him, wouldn't we want to find out how HE wants to be worshiped? It really doesn't matter that our hearts are in the right place, Scripture tells us that our hearts are deceitful. (Jer 17:9 “The heart is more deceitful than anything else and mortally sick. Who can fathom it?")
Perhaps this is why He spells it out quite easily in the Torah, how to live, eat and worship Him. It's pretty simple really. Not complicated at all, except a lot of us are still a rebellious stiff-necked people.

The prayer of my heart comes from a Psalm of David, Psalm 139
23 Examine me, God, and know my heart;
test me, and know my thoughts.
24 See if there is in me any hurtful way,
and lead me along the eternal way.
